A rare and unusual scene from arguably the most important American glass artist. Paul made very few weights featuring butterflies, he is much more well known for his bees and dragonflies. In this interesting example these is a realistic butterfly or moth with eye spotted front and hind wings. The insect hovers over a loose bouquet of blue flowers but most interesting is a hidden "root person" camouflaged amongst the leaves and stems. From the underside, embedded in the the arms, legs, and foliage are Paul's unique "word" canes, such as "seed", "fertile", and more. This dimensional work contains all that one would hope the find from this important artist and more.
