One of the main contributing innovators of the American paperweight renaissance, John Gentile made a large range of paperweights and decorative table ware. Good and unusual examples of their works have become more scarce in recent years as collectors have sought out and added them to their collections. The millefiori seen in this weight, and it is believed that all the millefiori found in Gentile weights, are from Murano. The Gentiles made a number of millefiori patterned composite butterflies and hearts - which are some of their most interesting and pleasing designs.  This is nicely made example wit rust-orange and blue canes and a black frit body set over a ground of wispy modeled green.
