At the center of the complex murrina is a skull framed by the latin words "Hodie Mihi Cras Tibi" (Today Me Tomorrow You) set with in white with a scalloped broader. This central motif is surrounded by roman numeral indices (1-12). The work is fully cut, polished and beveled. It is a good example of Mathieu's artistry, showcasing his attention to detail and ability to create complex composite portraits with multiple fused murrine components.
