Ben's Paperweight Picks is a summer project I created for my 11-year-old son, Benjamin. The goal is simple: to introduce him to the fascinating world of paperweights while teaching him about art, entrepreneurship, and the skills needed to recognize, communicate, and create value.
Here's the challenge: Ben gets to choose any three paperweights from the gallery. If he can sell any or all by October 1st, he earns 100% of the proceeds from those sales. To help him balance enjoying the reward today with planning for the future, 10% of the proceeds becomes his spending money, while the remaining 90% is deposited into his college savings account.
Through this project, Ben will learn how to evaluate artwork, write about it, and present it to collectors through a series of social media posts. It's a fun way to combine art appreciation with real-world business experience while giving him a firsthand look at what it takes to run a small business.
