The thistle is set over a transparent blue ground and is a multi cane composition of complex green & white cane sections for the stem and leaves with purple & white cane sections for the blossom. At the base of the stem embedded as part of the pattern is an "H" cane. Only a handful of these are known to exists (made throughout his career) and this may be the only known example from the Harland era.
